Academic Divisions of Chinese Academy of Sciences

About Us

Established on June 1, 1955, the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD) serves as an integral part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and functions as the highest advisory body to the State in the field of science and technology. It is also a crucial think tank for scientific ideas at the national level.

In early 1953, establishment of the specialized committees of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) laid the foundation for the creation of the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD). In May 1955, the 10th plenary session of the State Council approved the first group of CAS members. In June 1955, the inaugural ceremony of CASAD was held in Beijing.

Membership in Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is China’s highest academic accolade in the field of science and technology and represents a lifelong position conferred by the State. The election of new Members is held biennially.

Forum of Frontiers of Science and Technology

The Forum of Frontiers of Science and Technology is a series of high-level academic conferences held periodically by the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD).

Publications

SCIENCE CHINA is a comprehensive academic journal jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Founded in 1950, SCIENCE CHINA has developed into a domestic top-level scientific journal in terms of academic level, editing quality and publishing quality.

Chinese Science Bulletin publishes high-caliber, peer-reviewed research on topics across the natural sciences and various high-tech fields from global science community. Journal articles are selected on the basis of originality, scientific significance and appeal to a general audience.

Tan Kah Kee Science Awards

The Tan Kah Kee Science Awards grew out of the former Tan Kah Kee Awards, which were established in 1988 in honor of Mr. Tan Kah Kee (1874–1961), a well-known overseas Chinese leader who made remarkable contributions to the development of science and education in China.
The Tan Kah Kee Awards were first established by Mr. Tan’s relatives. Later, CAS was entrusted for its organization and evaluation.
