On April 16, the "Nanyong National Research Grand Lecture" and the Fourth Training Session for Research Planning was held. TAN Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) attended the session and delivered a speech.
This training session focused on the theme "Focusing on National Strategy, Discussing Technological Innovation," inviting academicians and experts from various fields to share cutting-edge ideas and practical wisdom. Academician of the CAS and Researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention GAO Fu, Academician of the CAS and Researcher at the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry XU Yigang, Academician of the CAS and Professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics GUO Wanlin, Professor at Fudan University's School of Philosophy WANG Guoyu, and Founder of the Ecovacs and Tineco brands, as well as Chairman of Ecovacs Group QIAN Dongqi, delivered five presentations. The meeting was hosted by ZHENG Hairong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Nanjing University Committee and Executive Vice President, who is also an Academician of the CAS.
In his speech, TAN Zhemin pointed out that building a strong technological nation and achieving self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology is an important strategic deployment for China to cope with the technological revolution and international competition. In 2026, the national "15th Five-Year Plan" will fully commence, clearly listing "significantly improving the level of self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology" as one of the main goals of China's economic and social development. It emphasizes the need to "strengthen original innovation and tackle key core technologies" to "seize" the high ground, replacing the narrative of "catching up." As an important source of technological innovation, universities should further enhance their capabilities in scientific and technological innovation, playing a leading role in achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. TAN Zhemin stressed that research planning is not merely a simple listing of topics, but a strategic choice of research directions, an active design of innovation paths, and a forward-looking layout of resource allocation. Currently, NJU is at a critical stage of climbing from a "plateau" to a "peak." This training aims to guide everyone to break out of "self-circulation" and integrate into the "big picture," planning their academic lives at a higher level. He expressed his expectations and hoped that the academicians and experts would use their rich experience in scientific innovation to answer questions and clarify doubts, and encouraged teachers and students to learn with questions and responsibilities, enhancing their awareness of research planning and improving their capabilities in scientific innovation, contributing to the acceleration of creating "the Unique Nanjing University" and achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.
