The 8th General Assembly of the Association of Academies of Sciences in Asia (AASA) was held from 14 to 17 October in Ankara, Turkey. At the meeting, CAS Vice President LI Jinghai was reelected the president of the new session of the AAAS Board (from October 2008 to October 2010).
In the capacity of the new AASA president, Prof. Li signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation with the Federation of Asian Scientific Academies and Societies (FASAS). The move is considered as a historical step towards substantial collaboration between the two sides.
Established in 2000 in the Republic of Korea, AASA currently has 26 formal member organizations. CAS formally became a member of AASA at its fourth general assembly in Sept. 2003.
