CAS Released Name List of Candidates for CAS Members

　　　  The Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released on wednesday a name list of candidates for new CAS Members election in May 29.

　　　  Altogether 296 scientists are proposed for the election. Their candidacy is under public scrutiny for a month before official selection.

　　　  CAS elects less than 60 new members every two years since 1991. Some 29 Chinese and 5 foreign scientists joined the elite club in 2007, totaling the number of Chinese members  to 710 and foreign academicians to 53.

　　　 The Academic Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) also released a name list containing 449 candidates for CAE academician election on the same day.
